Thank you for visiting Oregon Health Decision's website! We are an independent, nonprofit, grassroots organization. OHD gives people an opportunity to become involved and have a voice in health care policy. OHD also provides materials to assist people in making better-informed decisions regarding their individual health care needs and wishes.

Oregon Health Decisions originally started in 1982 as an out reach effort by the Oregon Health Council. Eventually Oregon Health Decisions evolved into an independent civic organization dedicated to bringing the general public into the process of shaping health policy. Early programs focused on access to health care, cost control, allocation of health resources, and supporting the dignity of individuals in health care settings. Projects have developed values information from the public for living will legislation, the development of practice guidelines, the tasks of technology assessment and distribution, and the development of a "scorecard" to help Medicaid clients select among plans. The organization is most well known for its role in organizing community meetings for the Oregon Health Services Commission in its work of creating a prioritized list of health services, a central feature of the innovative Oregon Health Plan.

"HEALTH DECISIONS" ORGANIZATIONS
There are approximately 12 independent health decisions organizations around the country, each committed to assuring that community values play a role in improving health care policy and practice. OHD and its colleagues in other states are members of American Health Decisions a national umbrella organization that promotes the mission of values-based citizen participation in health care issues.
